For those of you who have never been to a music institute, the Suzuki Institute in Kingston Ontario is a special place. Founded by Valery Lloyd-Watts and Carole Bigler it is a place where devotion, love for children and education mesh. Valery is considered to be the most listened to piano performer in the world, as she has recorded the Suzuki literature for piano and Carole is a master teacher, pianist and lecturer known worldwide. Their enthusiasm and professionalism is present in this faculty, and thus, in those who attend the institute. (One can tell by the comradery in the photo how these teachers bond and have fun)
Last year the institute was saddened with the retirement of Valery and Carole. We all went with the idea it would be its last summer. But the faculty, along with the dedicated, participating families would not allow the institute be put to rest. With perseverance, intelligent leadership and love for music and children, a core of people formed to ensure that the institute will happen again next summer.
The integrity of the music program will remain strong as always. Many of the faculty will return to the beautiful Queens University campus and the wonderful combination of love and expertise will continue to flourish.
For those who have never been to a music institute, consider this one. It is a unique camp where parents stay with their child for the week. They share the experience of college life, such as sleeping in the dorm, walking to classes, eating in the cafeteria and signing up for classes. During the week, parents attend classes with their children, go to concerts and share relationships with others from all over the United States and Canada. It is a great way to see how your child acts during class. Also it provides an opportunity to share the experience. Your child’s music interest and ability will soar as will your personal relationship with your child.
If you have been to other Suzuki institutes, try this one out for a change. Man parents who attend claim that the one in Canada is the best. Pass the word; the Kingston Suzuki Institute begins July 4 !
